The Pitfalls of Using Multiple Large Monitors

We’ve talked a lot about the benefits of multiple monitors. They increase productivity, let you multi-task with ease, can even help declutter your workspace. While many people have jumped on the multiple-monitor bandwagon, we’ve started to wonder if it’s possible to have too much of a good thing? Let’s take a look at some of the pitfalls of having multiple large monitors.

The Lost Cursor

One of the most frustrating things we hear about is people having such a large setup that they frequently lose track of their cursors. Depending on the size of your monitors and the number you use, it can be easy to lose track of your cursor’s location as you switch to a different screen. While Windows operating system allows you to find your cursor with the click of a keyboard button, other operating systems lack the option. This can waste precious amounts of time when you’re trying to complete a time-sensitive project.

Too Large of a Display

Bigger isn’t always better. Often, large monitors crowd the desk space, even when mounted on one of our stands, keeping you from being able to have all the tools you need in front of you as you need them. Further, your sitting position might not be ideal for multiple 30-inch displays, and could result in neck or eye strain. Opting for smaller monitors may enhance your productivity more than multiple larger displays ever could.

Overspending

High-quality large monitors can have a hefty price tag. You may be able to get the right setup with smaller monitors for far less money, allowing you to use any extra money on improving your graphics card to help you run those extra displays at their highest capacity.

While we agree that large monitors have their place, they’re not right for everyone and every application. Consider what you’re looking for out of your workspace and order the right mounting system for your desk.
